Eating
Part of a Virtue of Fitness and Health
What is Eating?
Fitness and health for human beings relies on a balance of healthy and nutritious eating and sufficient physical exercise to maintain a healthy body and mind. This page is about the 'eating' half of that balance.
Eating food is an essential part of human life. It's part of normal human socialization, sharing a meal with friends or colleagues; it's how our bodies obtain necessary nutrition for health; it's a pleasurable part of our daily rhythm of life. So our rational approach to eating, then, doesn't need to exclude the social or pleasurable aspects of eating. We can simply focus on attaining nutrition and avoiding excess within such uses of eating.
To do so, we can use the scientifically backed 2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans as a baseline for learning about our nutritional needs. By learning about nutrition, tracking our meals, and identifying where we fail to meet the Guidelines' recommendations, we can improve our eating habits for better overall fitness.
How do we develop Eating?
Due to the unique needs for eating well—namely studying nutritional science and adjusting our diet accordingly—we have developed a custom Tracker for tracking our nutrition, through inputting what we eat weekly and using Google Gemini to estimate the nutrients, and then comparing that weekly mealplan to the recommendations within the Dietary Guidelines.
Thereafter, the user can view a report of the shortcomings of their diet and will be provided with suggestions for how to improve their diet for the next week. Through steady progression in reforming one's diet week-to-week, we can attain a diet that conforms to the Dietary Guidelines better and so improve health.
